Camel Craft & Drawing Course

Welcome to our exciting and educational course on camels! Over the course of 8 sessions, we will delve into the fascinating world of camels through a combination of craft making, drawing, and deep observation. Inspired by the Quranic verse that encourages us to observe the creation of camels, as it mentions, “أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى الْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ” (Do they not look at the camels, how they are created?) (Quran 88:17), we will explore how observing a single object can inspire multiple art pieces.

Course Contents:

Week 1: Introduction to Camels and Drawing an Arabian Camel
– Get acquainted with camels and their unique characteristics.
– Engage in a fun drawing activity where we will sketch an Arabian camel.

Week 2: Exploring Camels and Drawing a Bactrian Camel
– Dive deeper into the world of camels and learn more about their diversity.
– Enhance your drawing skills by creating a detailed illustration of a Bactrian camel.

Week 3: Craft Making – Creating a Camel with Recycled Materials
– Discover the importance of sustainability by using recycled materials to craft a camel.
– Learn various craft techniques to bring your camel creation to life.

Week 4: Drawing a Robot Camel
– Unleash your imagination as we explore the concept of a robot camel.
– Develop your drawing skills by creating a futuristic depiction of a camel.

Week 5: Understanding the Camel’s Eye and Eyelids Mechanism
– Study the unique eye and eyelid mechanism of camels.
– Engage in a craft activity where we will create a model to understand this fascinating adaptation.

Week 6: Exploring Ancient Artworks and Drawing Camels
– Discover the rich history of camel-related artworks from different cultures.
– Channel your creativity by drawing and recreating some of these ancient masterpieces.

Week 7: Studying the Camillidae Family and Making a Pop-Up Card
– Learn about the Camillidae family, which includes camels and llamas.
– Create a pop-up card featuring these fascinating animals, showcasing your craft skills.

Week 8: Exploring the History of Camel Palanquins and Designing a Modern Version
– Explore the historical significance of camel palanquins (covered litters).
– Utilize modern equipment such as solar panels, air conditioners, and satellite receivers to design a contemporary camel palanquin.

Throughout the course, you will not only gain knowledge about camels but also develop your artistic skills and observation abilities. Get ready to embark on this creative journey where we will learn, create, and be inspired by the magnificent world of camels.

(each session will be 1 – 1:30 hr)

Time & Day: time of classes to be decided (TBD) in coordination with time zones and convenience of participants. Before we start the classes we ask the preferable time of the participants and then we set the time. It is probable that we start 2 or 3 classes to cover all the time zones.

This course will start on December 2nd 2023.

The course will be taught by Mahdi T.Yazdi, author and illustrator of Quranic infographics and Hadith infographics books. Instructor has Bachelors in architecture and a decade experience as an art professional.
